What does a NJ Assembly member do?
The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower chamber of the state legislature. Assembly members work alongside the Senate and Governor to create laws, set the state budget, and advocate for their communities.
Responsibilities of an Assembly member
- Pass bills on public policy issues
- Determines state spending levels
- Raises and lowers taxes
- Votes to uphold or override vetoes from the Governor
There are 80 members in the General Assembly, with two representatives per district across 40 districts in New Jersey.
